Building Help for Niche Market Bloggers
When launching Niche Market Blogger recently I explained that the principal objective is to demonstrate the possibility that anyone who can use a keyboard can earn a living as a blogger.
As a spin-off, it is easy to see that if this works then anyone with knowledge to share or enthusiasm for their chosen subject can use the same blogging process to earn a living in their own niche market. That's why it's called Niche Market Blogger!
To overcome my visitors natural and entirely justified scepticism it is therefore necessary to be both public with my progress and also to share and document the learning process. That goes for those just starting out – and hopefully we might uncover some useful stuff for more practiced bloggers as well.
The process of documenting things rather than just writing about it tends to slow things down a bit but I've been putting in the hours and whilst it is not evident here in the blog you can see the evidence in the How Do I..? pages where I am starting to build the documentation.
However, I do need to keep some regularity and consistency with posting so that the site can start registering with the search engines. So you will see me make some short posts in future just pointing to the new pages that are created in the help section.
That's a useful tip by the way. Many bloggers focus entirely on posts. But search engines give a lot of weight to pages. So it is useful to put your major content on pages – which always remain visible unlike posts which are archived and become harder to find. Then make a short post drawing attention to the page with a hyperlink.
In that way the search engines are rapidly made aware of your new page and anyone subscribed to your RSS feed will be able to read your post – which will give a little taster of the content but not give away the whole show. If your subscriber is interested then they follow the RSS link back to your post and then to your new page.
So to be an effective niche market blogger you need to use each element of your site for the purpose for which is is best designed. Pages hold good content with a long life, posts get attention.
