Basic WordPress Settings
WordPress is an excellent software platform for search engine optimisation – but not as it comes 'out of the box'. There are a number of setting and plugins you have to get right for it to work well.
The Dashboard

Once installed you can open your blog to the 'back office' Dashboard by entering your domain name followed by /wp-admin into the address bar.
Your Dashboard will look something like this.
Sections In The Left Sidebar

Different features and functions are located in the left sidebar.
Each one has an almost invisible drop down menu indicator. Click on this to open up that section. Click again to close it when you have finished.
Settings – drop down menu

The basic Settings are found down at the bottom of the list.
Click on the little down arrow to open up the Settings menu.
When setting up your blog you need to open up each of Settings to check that it is optimised the way you want it.
Settings in Semiologic

As you can see, there are 17 Setting features loaded from scratch in Semiologic compared to only 8 in basic WordPress.
This will also occur when you have more plugins loaded in a basic WordPress blog as the plugins automatically configure themselves in the Settings panel requiring that you select how you want the plugin to behave.
However, this is the first indication of the time saved using Semiologic where so many basic requirements are included automatically and more than 80 plugins are fully integrated from first loading.
